Westville: Adjustment layers, applying adjustments to a selection. The Photo was taken with a Sony Mavica FD91 at 1024x768. The sky and lighter ground areas were first selected with the magic wand, the lasso in smart edge, and in freehand. Once the sky was selected, the selection was inverted and a new Brightness/ Contrast adjustment layer was created and the foredround was adjusted. I first tried to brighten the foreground and increase the contrast. This action resulted in an unnatural 'flare' around the trees. I undid until I was back to the start and, this time I left the brightness at zero and took the foreground contrast negative, the result was that the dark areas washed out a bit and the flare was not apparant. I increased the contrast until the saturation was just not apparant and increased the brightness a bit too. The values I settled on were Brightness: 11 and Contrast: -6. |
